Fitness in the Fall

As much as I want to hold on to summer…. I think it’s time I admit that fall is officially here. September is my transition month, but there’s no denying it once October hits. The air is crisp and cooler, but the sky is still bright blue. The leaves are turning yellow and orange, but the sky is still bright blue. The days are feeling shorter, but the sky is still bright blue. And a bright blue sky is too inviting to stay indoors all day! And because of all of that, fall is the perfect time to keep up a fitness routine outside. The bright blue sky is deceiving though. Sometimes it’s colder than it looks, and sometimes it’s warmer than it looks. Time to bust out the fun fall fitness layers!

September was my month to get back into a fitness routine. I get bored with the same old thing, so I do need variety with my fitness choices, but I also need consistency for a routine (and so do my kids). My main fitness choices right now are FIT4MOM, running, hiking, and yoga. Below I will detail out my progress from last month and my goals for this month!

FIT4MOM – This is the one that I was the most consistent with when Zara was a baby. Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre classes are held daily, and I was going 4-5 times a week. And I joined the running club and I surprised myself by signing up for the Body Back boot-camp style program. And I saw serious results! Then I got pregnant again. I kept up a good routine throughout the second pregnancy, but since Gavin has been here, my consistency has not gotten back on track. And it’s not because of the baby, and it’s not because I have two under two. It’s Zara!! That girl sleeps in (no complaints about that!) and she takes forever to eat breakfast. So getting out the door in the morning for classes on time has been a serious challenge.
Sept update: I only made it to a handful of Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre classes the whole month! And I can’t commit right now to running club or another Body Back session while Gavin is nursing every two hours.
Oct goal: Make it to more morning classes with my two babies in the stroller! I want to be back out there so badly! And I also plan to leave the babies with the husband for at least one Friday Night FitClub class (this month is cardio kickboxing!) and at least one Saturday morning Body Back Shred class. I’ll start small and expand from there!

RUNNING: Well I haven’t been able to get back into running just yet. I love my double stroller, and it seriously IS the best running stroller out there! But Gavin is still a little too young to be able to handle running yet since he can’t quite hold his head on his own yet. But we are looking forward to hitting the trails again soon!
Sept update: No running miles logged. 😦
Oct goal: We’ll see… I don’t want to set too high of expectations with this one.

HIKING: September was my second Hike it Baby 30 challenge – logging 30 miles with the babies in 30 days. And I can honestly say I nailed it!! This one was great fun for me, Zara, and Gavin. I got some serious workouts in with double carrying – wearing 35 extra pounds of people and about 10 extra pounds of gear is no joke! And Zara got out and hiked parts of our adventures on her own, and Gavin got in some good naps snuggled up against me.
Sept update: We have currently logged 32 miles for the month, and there’s still one more day left for more!
Oct goal: There isn’t an official mileage challenge, but I plan to still be out there as much as we can and hike out there in this amazing fall weather. The colors here are beautiful!!

YOGA: With all of this activity and with just carrying and lifting a baby most of the day and chasing after a toddler all the time…. yoga and stretching are HEAVEN!!
Sept update: Gavin and I did go to one mommy-and-me yoga class which was great. And Zara likes to practice certain poses with me. And I stretched almost daily.
Oct goal: I honestly doubt if I will make it to any official yoga classes this month, but I do plan on practicing more poses on my own! Zara, Gavin, and I are doing yoga at home! Namaste 🙂

So on that note… Let’s do this. I’ll be layering up me and my babies and continuing (and hopefully expanding) our fitness routine this fall! Bring on the yellow and orange leaves and that beautiful bright blue sky!

I’m happy to be linking up with Alyssa and Tracy once again for their one year anniversary of Training for Tuesdays! Way to host, share, inspire, and encourage others, ladies! I hope to continue joining you for year two. 🙂

Girl, I seriously applaud you for getting ANYTHING done with 2 little ones! I absolutely love the pics from your hike – I’m sure it isn’t easy carrying all that weight but what a great way to get in some active time with your kids! Thanks for linking up and good luck on your goals this month. October is my favorite month for all the reasons you listed 🙂

It’s probably because I’m not a mom, but I seriously had no idea how many group exercise activities and collectives were out there to join fitness and motherhood. I think it’s so wonderful! And I love that you’re trying your hand at so many different ones. Boredom is definitely a big enemy of motivation, so it’s great that you have some options to keep things interesting. Here’s to doing great in October too! Thanks so much for linking up 🙂

Two years ago, I had no idea either! I was a runner who took Barre classes. So after I became a mom, I googled what barre classes can I do with a baby?! And I found Stroller Barre! Seriously genius! FIT4MOM has been absolutely amazing. SO many options of classes to do with and without the baby. And I’m still a runner…. now I’m just a runner with a double stroller and two mini running buddies 🙂 I love your linkup and your blog!! Cheers!

That’s so cool you can get out and hike with the little ones! I’m not a mom yet, so I haven’t had to deal with getting back in shape after pregnancy and all the juggling that entails but it looks like you’re doing great with it! Good luck!
